Radio Group Establishes Traffic Assistance Centers.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Society of Communicators’ and Networkers (Scan) Pampanga chapter established traffic assistance centers in different entry and exit points in the province, to help both private and public motorists who are returning for a week-long vacation.

Scan is an amateur ham radio group that aims to provide alternative source of information through two radios handled by its members nationwide, particularly in Pampanga.

Daniel “Dan” Ombina, Scan president in Candaba town, said at least 10 traffic assistance centers have been established all throughout the province.

This activity is being conducted in close coordination with local police in different towns in the province.

“Ang Arayat area po kung saan kami kabilang ay sa Cutud kami magbibigay ng libreng ayuda sa ating mga motorista na makakaranas ng problema sa kalsada,” Ombina said.

Ombina claimed that Scan has also organized several medical groups composed of doctors, nurses and other health-related professionals, to provide medical attention for motorists as the case maybe.

“Mayroon din kasing kasamang mekaniko para kung sakaling mayroong motoristang masisiraan ay matulungan din natin,” he added.

The traffic assistance centers are established in Arayat, Apalit, San Simon, Mabalacat, Magalang, Lubao, Mexico, City of San Fernando and Angeles City.

It can be recalled that as broadcast in national television, the group – during the onslaught of Typhoon Pedring – was the first to conduct rescue operations when residents in a Bulacan town were trapped by floodwaters.(Herbert P. Mapiles)
